What causes people to abandon an entire settlement, town, or even a large city? Here are seven amazing examples from the North Korea to Thailand, New Jersey to Japan, plus three honorable mentions. Some of these sites are illegal, making these photographs a rare glimpse of incredible ghost towns. One of them has been burning for over fourty years!

Today last.fm released a tool that will allow users to audio fingerprint their music and then give that data to last.fm to use for standardization of track names. In a sense each individual user is contributing to the data mining process by letting this tool scan their mp3 collection.

According to Capitol Hill newspaper, Rollcall, Senator Larry Craig has pleaded guilty in court to charges of disorderly conduct. Craig was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men’s public restroom, according to an arrest report.

Restarting Windows Without Restarting Your PC... →
Sometimes, you need to reboot Windows (e.g. when installing new software), but there is no need to restart BIOS, too. However, the default is to reboot both. (That’s called doing a “cold boot,” rather than a “warm boot.”) There’s a trick that works on both XP and Vista to get it to do a warm boot instead, thus saving you 30 seconds per cycle.
